This year, the Czech Republic is also financing the Russian war in Ukraine through a historically record-high import of Russian steel
The Czech Republic is sharply increasing its steel imports from Russia this year, reaching a historic record high. From January to August, it imported more than 537,000 tons of this raw material, which is 43 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ). The value of this import has reached approximately 6.7 billion Czech korunas. Thus, the Czech Republic continues to indirectly finance Russia’s war in Ukraine, despite having cut direct imports of Russian oil and natural gas.
