‘The state failed.’ In a ‘landmark’ ruling, the court found that the Czech Republic collects data from mobile phones illegally
The Municipal Court in Prague has finally upheld a lawsuit filed by journalist Jan Cibulka over the mandatory collection of data on when, from where and with whom users called and texted. According to the court, the bulk collection of this data is in violation of European legislation. It ordered the Ministry of Industry and Trade to apologise to Cibulka for the interference with his rights and to pay the costs of the proceedings. The Ministry can still appeal against the final verdict.
