How Heinrich Fügner and Friedrich Tirsch founded the Czech Turner Society, to whose members the republic owes much
It is no secret that the two key players in the founding of Sokol, Miroslav Tyrš and Jindřich Fügner, were born into a German-speaking environment. They came into the world in 1822 as Heinrich Fügner and ten years later as Friedrich Emmanuel Tirsch. In the case of these two personalities, we can observe a similar phenomenon to that recently commemorated on the anniversary of Bedřich Smetana (born Friedrich and writing in German for many decades).
