‘The situation is serious’: MEPs find suspicious groups around Nitra drawing EU funds
An EP delegation has uncovered suspicions of fraud following an audit of the EU funds in Slovakia. According to the head of the delegation, these are organised groups operating around Nitra. The European Parliament Commission has completed its audit in Slovakia. The delegation was interested in the use of European money, especially in the agro-sector. They looked into the media coverage of the allocation of EU subsidies from the Rural Development Programme for the promotion of agro-tourism and rural tourism in 2015.
A billion worth of bitcoins were donated to the ministry by a drug dealer. The police are investigating
A man convicted of drug trafficking donated 468 pieces of bitcoin to the Justice Department this year, which the department then auctioned for nearly CZK 1 billion. The donation is being handled by the National Organized Crime Control Center. According to the ministry, everything was legal, but police say the bitcoins apparently came from illegal activities and the man wanted to donate some of them to the state to make his other proceeds of crime legal.
