Seven crowns in the account. Courts are out of money, they stop paying experts and lawyers
The courts in the Czech Republic have recently had to carefully weigh not only their judgments, but also every crown issued. Money that should have lasted them for the whole year was often spent in the first six months of the year. In the spring, Marek Semela, an expert witness from Brno, gave an opinion on a banal traffic accident and defended it at a hearing in the Příbram district court. As usual, he then sent a bill for CZK 10,065. He was supposed to receive the money at the beginning of July at the latest, but it has not arrived yet. Only after repeated urging did the court write him a letter of apology. “The payment voucher has not yet been paid as the court does not have sufficient payment funds,” the reply from early August reads.
