Matovic’s anti-corruption campaign of the Čurilovci, NAKA probably manufactured evidence against the opposition

Attorney Kubina: Čurilovci were not listened to by the inspection. He suspects that illegal wiretaps were legalized

According to the lawyer, the new findings raise suspicions that the bugging equipment was introduced into the monitored areas of the police offices by an unauthorised person without a court order. When the court then approved the wiretapping of investigators at the request of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Bratislava, Kubina said it could only serve to “legalise” the illegal wiretapping deployed earlier.

Commentary: The Čurilovci, that is, a group of police investigators nicknamed after the then head of NAKA, launched an anti-corruption campaign shortly after the (new) Matović government took office in 2020. Kubina, attorney at law and advisor to President Čaputová at the time, explains the background (see video) of the investigation in a complicated way, but he also said that the corruption investigation was based on rumours and assumptions. To which the special prosecutor responded by dropping the prosecution, which the lawyer calls dubious. Overall, the investigation became more complicated after wiretaps of the NAKA corruption investigators themselves emerged. They suggest that this was a commissioned investigation of opposition exponents. In the video, the lawyer uses the same argumentation, where he considers the results of the investigation to be legal, but considers the results that refute his argument to be dubious or illegal. Similar cases are usually analysed by investigative journalists in hindsight. It is unprecedented for either side to make PR videos while the case is still alive.

The Churilla family failed: the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic gave the truth to Attorney General Žilinka

The verdict is – the constitutional complaint of the accused NAKA police officers “is not upheld”. The accused NAKA police officers claimed that their right to judicial and other legal protection, the right to a defence and the right not to be prosecuted in any other way than in accordance with the law had been violated.
