Quid pro quo? Crown witness to the murder of an elderly man changed his statement
In the case of the murder in Slopný, for which David Šimon and Maroš Straňák have been in prison for 11 years, the testimony of two of Straňák’s cellmates played a key role, in addition to the trace evidence. Cousins Milan and Ludvík Rakaš, the prosecution’s crown witnesses, claimed in court that Straňák had confessed to the murder of the pensioner while in custody. However, Ludvík Rakaš has now completely reversed himself when speaking to reporters, saying that the man never confessed to the murder – and that he denied the crime. Rakaš also added that he had been offered a reduced sentence if he testified in the case.
