On Thursday the Constitutional Court ruled on a complaint by German Thomas Bartsch. During the totalitarian era, Czechoslovak border guards shot him in the knee. The Czech courts awarded him CZK 5,550 for his medical injuries, but now they must reconsider the compensation. The 5,000 compensation for the mutilation at the border was inadequate. On Thursday, the Constitutional Court sided with German citizen Thomas Bartsch. In 1989, Czechoslovak border guards shot him in the leg while trying to escape to the West.
