Commodities trader offers insight into domestic economic success, cheap labor and energy

Europe did not grow on labour, but on cheap energy. The crisis should lead to self-reflection, says Paukner

Commodities trader Petr Paukner expects prices to calm down. His Carbounion group will see a significant increase in sales this year, exceeding CZK 13 billion. He lost CZK 200 million last year on wild price fluctuations on the energy market. This year, however, commodities trader Petr Paukner is already looking for a significant growth in sales and profits. Thanks to expensive coal, which he brings from as far away as Indonesia. He has been publicly criticised for his deal with the Czech State Forests for wood chips. Competitors are bothered by the price offered and the fact that the two-year-old agreement was not preceded by a tender.
