People are losing their savings more than necessary. The CNB is to blame
Record high inflation has taken over CZK 500 billion from the real value of household savings over the past year, and this is certainly not the final figure. We will continue to face high inflation this year and savings will be devalued by hundreds of billions more. Last year and this year will be the biggest decimation of savings in the modern history of the Czech Republic. The question therefore arises as to what share of the blame for this is borne by the Czech National Bank, which by law is supposed to take care of price stability, i.e. to keep inflation around 2%.
