He ended up giving out visas in Iran. Now the diplomat will represent the ambassador in Arabia
Several years ago, the Czech Embassy in Tehran was rocked by a scandal that forced former Ambassador Svatopluk Čumba to quit after three years and return home. At the time, the Inspector General of the Foreign Ministry was investigating suspicions of possible visa-buying. The ministry, including the former head of diplomacy, found that Čumba had abused the ambassadorial exemption to issue visas, of which he handed out hundreds. Ambassador Chumba handed out visas mainly to Iranian businessmen. The Czech-Slovak-Iranian Chamber of Commerce, led by Jan Kavan and Zdeněk Zbytek, recommended the names of those who received them in an unusual way to the ambassador.
