They don’t face prison, so they don’t pay. More and more single parents are not receiving money from their former partners
More and more single parents are having trouble obtaining child support from their former partners. According to the Association of Single-Parent Families, the number of requests for help with enforcing maintenance payments has increased by twenty percent since January. Non-paying parents reportedly argue that, due to a change in the law, the vast majority of them no longer face prison. Failure to pay child support has not been a criminal offense since January. However, the new government plans to make it a criminal offense again starting in July.
