Avast sold millions of dollars worth of antivirus user data, Microsoft and Google among customers
A joint investigation by Motherboard and PCmag reveals that the Czech antivirus maker Avast and AVG is selling detailed data on its 100 million users through its subsidiary Jumpshot. The latter was bought by Avast seven years ago as a maker of tools for optimising PC performance. The same company now offers clients such as Google, Coca-Cola and Microsoft information on “every search, every click, every purchase and on any page”. The price of the data for individual clients is in the millions of dollars.
