Advent in the village: the Luckys hissed at the bad housewives, the Perchtas mated children’s tummies
The Advent season in the time of our ancestors was not only filled with joyful anticipation of Christmas Eve. It also had its dark and demonic characters, which we probably inherited from ancient pre-Christian times. These included Lucky, who punished housewives who did not observe the ban on housework, or Perchta, who in turn “mended the bellies” of children who did not observe the fast.
