Ghana to acquire six L-39NG Albatros aircraft for €111 million
However, the acquisition has apparently upset some political interests, as a minority in parliament has raised objections to the government’s plan to buy the planes. According to a member of the parliamentary committee on roads and transport, Gov Kwame Agbodzy, Agbodzy argued that other countries had bought L-39NG aircraft at US$12 million each, but the memorandum presented to parliament puts the price of each aircraft at €14.7 million each, excluding the cost of spare parts. “We are buying an aircraft that we were told would only cost about $12 million, but one of these aircraft in the deal costs €14.7 million.
