I didn’t provoke, I just didn’t show my ID. And the officer punched me, says the woman.
On Wednesday night in the center of České Budějovice, a municipal police officer punched a woman in the face who refused to show him her ID card. The town’s mayor, Jiří Svoboda, put the officer off duty within hours, when MF DNES presented him with a video recording of the intervention, and said the police would dismiss him. The 47-year-old woman who was assaulted has now spoken for the first time. She claims, like the taxi drivers who filmed the video, that she did not provoke or insult the officer in any way. The editors know her name, but she spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity.
