They help, but they can’t afford the salary. People in social services need more jobs
There is still a shortage of social workers in the Czech Republic. There is currently a shortage of about 3 000 people and new people are not rushing to work because of low salaries. For those who remain in the field, the most frequent number on their paychecks is less than CZK 30 000 gross, and three quarters of them earn less than CZK 35 000. More and more of them have to look for another job to survive and not have to run away “for a better one”. Forty-one-year-old Tomáš Klumpar is an exception. In fifteen years of working in social services, he has worked his way up to team leader at Beztíže, a Prague-based organization that cares for young people.
