The death toll from the collision between the international express train EC 279 Metropolitan from Prague to Budapest and a regular bus near Nové Zámky has risen to seven. At least five other people sustained injuries. According to as yet unconfirmed information, the accident was caused by a malfunctioning sound and light signal at the level crossing after a severe storm. The injured were taken to hospitals in Bratislava, Nitra, Komárno and Levice. The hospital in Nové zámky is not working after Wednesday’s storm. Helicopters from Bratislava and Nitra also intervened at the scene.
